Graduation

Yesterday was a great day, I finally wet through my graduation and it went really well. The day started off slowly and I headed for the theatre around noon and got ready for the ceremony to start around one o’clock. The ceremony was really long since it was the school’s one hundred year anniversary, the principle was resigning and there were 228 of us graduating. All in all the ceremony went okay but some of the speeches were way too long. After listening to the speeches, singing and getting our diplomas we went on down to Háskóli Íslands (e. University of Iceland) and had our pictures taken.

After the ceremony finished we headed home to make final preparations for the small get together that had been planned for the family. But when we were finishing moving the cars so the guest would have sufficient parking space dad noticed that a helicopter landed at the church just about us in less than 500 meters distance. It turned out that it was there to pick up a newly wedded couple. I thought that was brilliant, don’t know about how romantic it was but at least it must have made their wedding unique to say the least.

Most of the family that had been invited showed up and had some food and wine. The celebration was over in under three hours and after that me and my friend, Óli, started to pound down some beers and play some Playstation. Then later on Sigurjón joined us and we headed downtown soon afterwards.

After getting downtown we started at Gaukurinn and stayed there most of the time. When we got in there were almost no people there which was understandable since the clock was only around eleven thirty, which is way to early for most Icelanders. While we were there we met up with some of our schoolmates, most commented about my lack of the student cap but I had decided to leave it at home since I hate hats. We also met one of my classmates named Gréta which was handing out tickets that granted us free beers at the bar which was a really really nice surprise. Of course we started to hammer down the beers and chat a bit and around that time I noticed a girl that really caught my eye. Being the shy guy I am of course I didn’t do anything about it but believe it or not she actually asked me to come dance with her and of course I complied. I found out that her name was Sara and we danced a bit and later headed of to Glaumbar but I didn’t last long there since I was getting a bit of a headache and had to get up early for work so I sorta drifted off home, which in hindsight wasn’t the best choice to make since I was really interested in Sara and didn’t really want to leave her hanging if that is the correct term to use… But I knew that if I’d stayed I would have wound up being late to work so I shook the thought off and left.

Today I woke up around ten and headed of to work. Today was the worst day ever to work, there were absolutely no customers, well except for the occasional person that was browsing. On top of that most of the work crew were hung over except for our poor Nonni who was in charge of our sorry hung-over selves. I wasn’t that hung over though but my head was definitely not completely clear. I actually wondered if I should give Sara a call but then I remembered I’m a shy prick and have no idea how to talk to girls nor what to say at all so I just let it slide and sent her an SMS saying I had a great time the night before and suggested that she give me a call sometime. After work was finally over (time sure passes slowly when there are no customers) I headed home and decided to open up a pack for a USB flash drive I’d gotten as a graduation gift and it was horribly sealed and it sorta felt like this to open it. Then the family headed of out to dinner to celebrate my graduation and the fact that my sister had recently finished her exams. We went to a new italian restaurant at Laugarvegur. I decided to have a sea food pasta plate and it was delicious. My sister however decided to try out a deep fried pizza and she didn’t like it, I had a bite off it and it tasted okay but it was sort of sweet or something.
